Why has my window glass gone misty?
Misting between the panes is a sign that the seal on your double-glazed unit has failed. A sealed unit is made up of two panes of glass separated by a spacer bar and sealed around the edges. Over time, the seal deteriorates, allowing moisture to enter — causing condensation or a permanently foggy appearance between the panes. The only permanent solution is to replace the sealed unit entirely. Surface condensation on the inside or outside of the glass can usually be resolved by improving ventilation or using a dehumidifier.
Do I need to replace the whole window frame?
In most cases, no. Most broken or failed window issues can be solved by replacing just the glass unit, leaving the frame intact. Replacing only the sealed unit is faster, cheaper and far less disruptive than a full window replacement. A full frame replacement may be necessary if the frame itself is damaged, warped or rotten, or if the window no longer closes or seals properly. Can you remove scratches from glass?

However, deeper scratches or damage to double glazed units generally cannot be polished out and will require the sealed unit to be replaced to fully restore the clarity and performance of your window.
